Unbowed & Unafraid is the story of Lasantha Wickrematunge, investigative journalist and Editor of The Sunday Leader who was murdered by hired goons as he drove to work on the morning of January 8, 2009. A few days later his newspaper published his posthumous editorial in which he predicts his murder and points the finger squarely at the powers that be. His is a remarkable story about the unwavering human spirit and who in his own words “walked tall and bowed to no man.”

While many pandered to the powerful and wallowed in shameful servitude, Wickrematunge fought the good battle long and hard, doggedly pursuing the cause of truth and justice. Indeed he had said, “It has long been written that my life would be taken, and by whom. All that remains to be written is when.”

Written by his ex-wife and partner in journalism Raine Wickrematunge, Unbowed & Unafraid comprises the editor’s life story, beginning with his childhood and moving on to his foray into journalism, family life, politics, the Sunday Leader story, his remarkable and often mischievous triumphs as an investigative journalist and finally his murder and the murder investigation. The book comprises 404 pages in art paper and includes 25 pages of mostly colour photographs.
